Hey Hey my little Beauty Munchkins!
So this week I have a little special treat to share with you.
Every year in the first week of August, there is a big traditional festival in my home town called “Villacher Kirchtag”. The whole inner city is closed just for this and there are a lot of stalls with sweets, cotton candy, toys for children and of course: beer – a lot of beer and schnapps ;)
One of the most outstanding things during this festival is the special way we dress. All the girls and women wear a “dirndl” and all the boys and men wear “lederhosen”.
Since I’m a girl (who would have thought) I’m going to show you what a “dirndl” looks like and how to wear it.
Every little village has its own traditional “dirndl” with a special pattern or apron or scarf. But they are very expensive and too precious to wear on this special event because there are so many people and the fear that it might get dirty or ripped is too big. So most of the girls wear new modern ones that are usually shorter and brighter in color than the traditional ones.
I bought a new one this year and it cost €100,- which is on the cheaper side.
It is black and red with cute little details. It is a tradition to wear a short puffy sleeved blouse underneath that still shows a lot of cleavage ;)
Also the way you wear the bow on the apron is trickier than you might think, because it has different meanings.
If you wear it on the left side it means that you are single and willing to flirt or looking for a partner.
Wearing it on the right side means you are married or taken.
If you tie the bow on the front in the middle you might think it means that you are not sure about your relationship status, but according to tradition it means you are still a virgin.
And the last way to wear it is in the middle in the back, which means that you are widowed or a waitress :P
It is not usual to wear edgy or fancy makeup with a dirndl, the look you can go for should be really down-to-earth. The only fancy thing on the head is supposed to be braided hair, in every way you can think of.
Unfortunately I’m a huge fail at doing my hair. I’ve tried for you guys! I watched some YT videos and really tried, but failed terribly. So if you want to see braided hairstyles: please google them ;)
yes, we had a lot of fun shooting :D |
I had really fun writing and preparing this post, so I hope you enjoyed it too.
Are there any special traditions where you live with a special way of clothing?
Let me know in the comments down below :)
