Hey Hey my little Beauty Munchkins!
Or should I say: Hello my little Easter bunnies?! ;)
Today I thought I’d give you a little inside on the Easter traditions from where I’m from.
I come from the south of Austria, from Villach to be exact.
We have a couple of traditions, like “egg rolling” or “tapping eggs” and of course the most important one where the kids search for hidden Easter baskets.
But to be honest, the one and only biggest tradition during Easter time is: FOOD!! :D
So I thought I’d share with you the most significant meals.
On Easter Sunday the whole family gathers around the table to eat “Osterjause”. Unfortunately there is not really a correct translation to it, but I’m gonna tell you what it is, so you can understand what it means.
We just put a big wooden plate in the middle of the table and everybody takes what he wants to eat. There is ham, cooked sausage, cooked pork or cow tongue (YUK, I don’t eat that), different kinds of cheese, freshly grated horse radish and of course boiled eggs. With it you eat bread or “Reindling”.
This brings me to my personal favorite thing about Easter food: “Reindling”
It is made out of yeast dough and filled with brown sugar, nuts, cinnamon and raisins.
I just LOVE it. Of course the one my grandma makes is the best one ;) and she always makes some of it extra for me to take home, because I just can’t get enough :D
And a there is another little special treat, that is really hard to get, because they don’t sell it in stores. You have to go to a local farmer to buy it, but it even is hard to find one that actually makes it. It is: filled butter. Oh yum yum yuminess!!
It can be filled with either nuts or poppy and you spread it just like normal butter on the “Reindling”.
I hope you all have amazing Easter holidays. What are the traditions where you live?! Let me know in the comments down below! :)
